A few days ago, the thermometer hit a record-breaking 124 degrees here in Palm Springs, and it’s expected to stay above 115 degrees for the next week. Living in this extreme heat is challenging and poses serious health risks, especially with the added strain on the electrical grid and air quality issues from nearby wildfires. Despite my usual aversion to air conditioning, I’ve come to appreciate its necessity in these conditions, though I’ve learned it has its limitations. Adapting to this heat involves various strategies, from early morning exercise to staying hydrated and adjusting to the challenges of maintaining a cool environment indoors.
