In this blog post, I discuss obesity as a national health crisis and explore the potential of GLP-1 receptor agonist medications like Ozempic and Wegovy to address it. Drawing from my own experience, I share how effective these drugs were for weight loss but also highlight the challenges of their high costs and limited accessibility due to restrictive insurance policies. To tackle this, I propose the “Peterson Plan,” a comprehensive approach that includes price reductions, expanded insurance coverage, and treating obesity as a national priority, much like a “moonshot” initiative, to make these life-changing treatments accessible to millions.
