During my recent pilgrimage to Alabama, I discovered that while Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is the most recognized leader of the Civil Rights Movement, Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth played a pivotal role in Birmingham’s fight against segregation. Despite surviving multiple assassination attempts, including the bombing of his home in 1956, Shuttlesworth remained undeterred, symbolizing courage and resilience.
