
I’ve been reflecting on the recent backlash against DEI initiatives—while it may appear fair to treat everyone exactly the same, removing those efforts often sends a message that marginalized people don’t belong. I believe instead we should launch a “National Belonging Initiative,” grounded not in mandates but in everyday kindness—learning names, inviting diverse perspectives, listening with care—so that everyone genuinely feels seen and included.
