I’ve never been very patient, but on this particular day I’m forced to confront that weakness head-on as I deal with a long, frustrating wait tied to an everyday but unavoidable obligation—trying to book summer ferry reservations to Martha’s Vineyard. As the hours drag on, I reflect on how little control I sometimes have over circumstances—and how these moments can quietly teach me to slow down, accept reality, and find perspective in the experience. By the end, I realize that even situations I would normally resent can become opportunities for growth if I shift my mindset, reminding myself that patience isn’t just a virtue people talk about—it’s a skill I’m still learning to practice.
