Two weeks ago, I walked across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, and retraced the historic route of the Selma to Montgomery civil rights march. Experiencing this history firsthand reminded me of the incredible bravery and determination it took to secure voting rights for Black Americans and inspired me to reflect on how the lessons of the Civil Rights Movement—standing against injustice, organizing locally, and committing to peaceful action—could help heal the deep divisions we face as a nation today.
