The Day I Became “Elderly” (Without Being Asked)

I landed in Seattle and was shocked when a shuttle bus driver loudly announced the front seats were for “the elderly,” effectively labeling me without asking if I needed help—and it made me unexpectedly angry. That moment forced me to reflect on how others now see me versus how I see myself, and it left me questioning when I crossed some invisible line into being “elderly.”
