I arrived in Bhutan driven by a promise I made to my children—to share a trip just between us—and a deep curiosity about what true happiness means in a place that measures Gross National Happiness instead of GDP. I was also drawn by the appeal of exploring a less-traveled land and by cinematic glimpses that made Bhutan feel at once mysterious and deeply compelling.
