George Wendt’s passing really hit me, not just because we lost a beloved actor, but because it felt like saying goodbye to a piece of Cheers, my all-time favorite show. With my own last name being Peterson, like Norm’s (the character George played on the show), I always felt an extra connection to him and to the warmth, humor, and community of that little Boston bar. Watching it now with my daughter, I can see its flaws through modern eyes, but I still cherish it — learning to love it for what it was while acknowledging how far we’ve come.
